Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time to prune trees?
Late fall through early spring (when trees are dormant) is generally ideal — it minimizes disease transmission and stress. However, deadwood and hazardous branches can and should be removed any time of year.
What's the difference between topping and proper pruning?
Topping (cutting the main leader or large branches back to stubs) is widely condemned by arborists — it causes decay, weakens structure, and leads to hazardous regrowth. We never top trees. We use crown reduction or thinning techniques instead.
How often should trees be pruned?
Most mature trees benefit from professional pruning every 3–5 years. Young trees may need structural pruning annually for the first few years to develop good form.
